Ways to Nourish

Food traditions carry the stories, memories, and wisdom of generations before us. Nourishing the Culture™ celebrates and preserves those traditions while exploring how they can continue to nourish our families and communities for generations to come.

BECAUSE OUR STORIES ARE WORTH PRESERVING

Improving your health shouldn’t mean giving up the foods you love. I bring nutrition science together with your traditions and preferences to create changes that feel realistic and sustainable.

BECAUSE HEALTH SHOULDN’T REQUIRE SACRIFICE

Food carries memories. It tells stories about where we come from, who raised us, and how generations before us gathered around the table. Nourishing the Culture™ recognizes that food can nourish the body while also connecting us to family, culture, and identity.

BECAUSE FOOD IS MORE THAN NUTRIENTS

Why Nourishing the Culture?

Read my Story

Food has always been more than just food to me.

It is family, culture, memory, and connection. Some of my favorite moments have happened around a table—sharing a meal, hearing a family story, or learning the traditions behind the foods we love.

I created Nourishing the Culture™ because I believe caring for our health should never require us to leave those parts of ourselves behind. My approach brings together nutrition science, cultural food traditions, and real life to help people nourish their health in ways that feel meaningful, practical, and sustainable.

More than anything, I want this to be a place where you feel welcomed, where your food has a story worth telling, and where there is always room for you at the table.

Hi, I'm Lea Cooks, MS

“I grew up eating the foods my mom and grandmother made, so trying to eat healthier sometimes felt like leaving part of my culture behind. Lea helped me see that rice, beans, tortillas, and our family meals can still have a place at the table. I finally feel like I can care for my health while staying connected to the foods and traditions I love.”
- Marisol D.

“From our first conversation, I felt like Lea genuinely wanted to understand me instead of handing me another list of foods I should and shouldn’t eat. She helped me make small changes that worked with my lifestyle, my culture, and the way my family eats. I walked away feeling more confident about my choices and, most importantly, like I could actually maintain them.”
- Araya S.

"Lea helped me realize I didn’t have to give up the foods I grew up with to take care of my health. She listened to what I actually eat, what my family enjoys, and what was realistic for my life. For the first time, I feel like I can make healthier choices without losing the foods and traditions that make me feel connected to home."

- Lisa W.

"I was dealing with so much pain when I first visited Carmel. I was quite skeptical about how singing bowls could possibly help but I was willing to try anything. After a few sessions not only did I feel better physically, but I was experiencing less anxiety as well. "

- Melissa L.

"The best part of Carmels work is how gentle it is. I've done so much trauma healing in the past and it always feels so heavy and daunting. I almost feel like the work is being done for me, through her, without the healing hangover."

- Sandy P.

"I'm not sure that the right words exist to explain how much I've loved my sessions with Carmel. They've been nothing short of life-changing. It's incredible how much can be released in one single session, but they're so good that I can never wait to come back!"

- Lisa W.
